Westworld

"Westworld" is leaving Westworld. I was afraid of this change. The Western style of the first season was sensational, but it's obvious that this series was made as something more than just a story about a theme park.

The first season of Westworld was fantastic. A combination of futurism and westerns, philosophy and adventure, plus a mystery and a great storyline twist. The second one was perceived by me as a triumph of form over content - what was perfectly successful in the premiere series did not quite succeded in the second part. The third season is completely different. There is no play with chronology, it looks more like sensational science fiction.

Is that good? Yes, there's the pace, there's the action, there's an interesting vision of the future world. This season is much better when it wants to be "attractive" rather than when it wants to sound smart - because, of course, philosophical issues still come up. What are the objections? The unsatisfactory stories of the old characters. Apart from Dolores, it is difficult to say anything interesting about the rest. Mave has a lot of screen time, but her rivalry with Dolores is not particularly poignant. Bernard or William basically run through the screen, and it's a pity that the scriptwriters have not prepared anything special for Ed Harris outside one scene. Several other characters appear only as decorations.

Plus side though, the new hero, Caleb, and his interestingly outlined relationship with Dolores. Vincent Cassel's a good match for the season's main antagonist. In general, the outgoing Westworld came out well for the creators. You can see the thought in this series and you would like to get to know the rest. It's a sad we're going to wait a bit again... Fortunately, the 4th season has already been confirmed by HBO.
